The murals at Wat Pra Sing were drawn during the Lanna period of Thai history. Lanna, which translates into English as 'One Million Thai Rice Fields', was a kingdom in the north of Thailand around the city of Chiang Mai. The golden age of Lanna was in the 15th century. In 1477 the 8th Buddhist council in Chiang Mai which worked on improving the Buddhist scriptures and it is believed that the murals in Wat Pra Sing were painted during this period.
The murals at Wat Pu Min temple date back to the same time.
